English

In recent decades, economic growth and development has become one of the fundamental goals of all countries. To achieve this goal, an increase in capital formation is a basic and important strategy. In this regard, researchers and economists have focused on identifying determinants of capital accumulation. Meanwile, taxes, such as corporate taxs, play an important role in capital accumulation especially in developing countries like MENA countries. Accordingly, this study aims to investigate the threshold effect of corporate tax on capital accumulation in MENA countries during 2000-2024 applyinh threshold regression method of panel data. According to the results, in countries with economic growth lower than threshold of 8.6950, corporate tax has a negative impact on capital accumulation. In contrast, in countries with higher evonomic growth, corporate tax has a positive and significant effect on capital accumulation. This result shows that in low-income countries, increase in corporate tax increases production cost and decreases capital investment. Aas a result capital accumulation is reduced. In high-income countries, however, due to efficient government performance, increased government revenue resulted from increased taxs may improve public goods and services. This process can increase capital accumulation. Moreover, the results show that economic growth and openness hav positive and significant effect on capital accumulation. Inflation rate and government expenditure, however, have negative and significant on capital accumulation.
